First saw Nicola Tuthill at 2020 Nationals when she won the title at 16 & broke 60m. By the end of 2020 she was No 2 in the world under 18. Her steady progress has now taken her to the brink of Olympic qualification. Another barrier broken with hard work & talent. She’s just 20..

….my favourite from The Exploding Heads after Frank Lampard was appointed interim Chelsea manager last year….

“great appointment ‘cos he knows the club…”…

..and the explanation….involving DNA and a crime by the tea lady…

All makes sense…..😂

Super stuff Gavin Moynihan …. A 59 around BeaverstownGolfClub in Donabate… a lovely Eddie Hackett/Peter McEvoy parkland near Gavin’s family home in what was the old Lamb Brothers Fruitfield Jam orchard…

💯 👇 Good post on maintaining 2 of the most important elements of golf for non-elite amateurs. Enjoyment & pace of play.I’d add 2 more. Pin Positions with at least 2 feet of flat green (per R&A & USGA guide)around the hole & green speeds between 8.5 & 10 & never higher than 11.5

After going so close last year, Tom McKibbin qualifies for the US Open, this one in Pinehurst North Carolina next month. At 21, he’s qualified for his first major.

Yep she did. Victory in Chorzow, Poland in 50.72 takes Sharlene to not just the Paris Olympics but also to No 2 on the Irish all time list. Not remotely surprising given her recent relay form & in a more competitive race (today’s was a runaway win) there’s a sub 50.5 there…

Trying to recall a day reporting sport 1st hand in over 40 years that was remotely as sad, tragic & bizarre as yesterday, all before 10am. The death of a tournament worker would, in any other scenario, been the focal event & in retrospect is all that matters about yesterday here.

.Jeff Darlington just said on SportsCenter that a police officer, who thought Darlington was with Scheffler as perhaps a manager or agent, said to him as he approached the situation, 'there's nothing you can do, he's going to jail.'

Captain’s Prizes & medals will become inaccessible to single digit players if things remain as they are. As for team events single figure players will be making up numbers. Spread sheet justification for WHS is one thing but the apathy on the ground is a real thing.

For anyone thinking that WHS has teething problems in the territories like the UK and Ireland where it was introduced just over 2 years ago, then have a look at this American post on the subject. They’ve been using it for years. Seems like the concerns are in a very similar vein.

'This is going to be the hardest won men's title of 2024 at a venue which, a bit like the championship, is relatively unloved and yet churns out exciting tournament conclusions,' writes Greg Allen

This is the way things might be heading with club golf competitions under WHS and while this would lead to a more equitable distribution of prizes down the handicap ranges, it might begin a process of eliminating the notion that the handicap system offered a level playing field..

One of the WHS issues appears to be that single figure players feel it’s pointless entering fourball comps. Overall prizes in singles appear to be a longshot in many courses - not all - but many. WHS has virtues but it is shredding the motivation of a large cohort of club golfers

This is a WHS experience in the UK. I wouldn’t be concerned about a 10 handicap having the day of his golf scoring life. It’s more the ‘no’ single figure player in the top 20 Nett scores that’s the worry. Over the last 2 years, my DM’s here have been loaded with similar stories…
