Rishi Sunak doesn’t understand why more people are on the long term sick
Yet increased waiting times year on year
1 in 9 waiting for hospital treatment - it’s surprising that so few are long term sick
If Govt invested in health the economy would £150bn better off & less off sick

Weirdest thing about this thread isn’t Jenny Jones misunderstanding a meme, but the almost everyone who follows her seems to have never spent more than 10 minutes on the internet.

Maybe we don’t have to worry about Labour losing young+millennial voters to Greens 🤷‍♀️

This isn’t really true - UK has pretty low levels of sickness absence when you come to international comparisons. Why? Because someone relying on statutory sick pay who has a week off sick has to live on just £44/wk… pretty strong incentive to work even if you are sick

Prime Minister doing his 'fit notes' speech at the Centre for Social Justice, which has castigated his government's handling of Carer's Allowance as a 'scandalous miscarriage of justice'.

Please someone ask him about that.

So yeah, we can be pretty sure the Conservatives will be defeated in 2024. We can even hope Labour will have the good sense to demolish the DWP altogether and rebuild it from scratch, as Hannah Fearn is suggesting.

There is no such thing as “a sick note culture.” There is a record high NHS waiting list, crippling housing costs, widespread food poverty, stagnant wages and inadequate benefit rates, a broken social care system, dire mental health services, and closed Sure Start centres.

In a column for The Lead I wrote about the economic precarity of millennials in private rented housing and chronically insecure work.

This growing group should be Labour’s first priority - and I have some policy ideas too

This👇 is a piece by Hannah Fearn we ran at The Lead last week. I'm still thinking about it, and I'm still angry;not least bc of how vividly it shows UK's truly violent divide—most dehumanising one, akin to, say,ethnicity/religion elsewhere—is poverty.

Holy shit.

Anyone want to tell me that I talk too much about the patriarchal system of British journalism now?

No thought not.

My rage knows no ends at this.

Today Nesta we published our research about how the two-child limit is affecting children’s early learning & the findings were devastating. Parents were skipping meals & their children missing out on opportunities to learn and play. Read more here 👉 nesta.org.uk/data-visualisa…

Yet another potential story has come across my desk this morning which makes me furious that it's not possible to issue housing associations with a Freedom of Information Act request. They take huge amounts of taxpayers' money in development funding. We should be able to ask Qs.
