the kind of writing residency i need is to be swallowed by a whale for several months, drafting my novel by the light of an oil lantern on the wreck of a ship inside the whale's belly, until my no good wooden puppet of a son finally comes to rescue me

Cracking as a Beaumont fan it was great to see the way Emily MacLeod, PhD interwove Shax & Beaumont. Whereas Shax contemporaries are often informing contexts for the main Shakespearean event here Shax was a context & The Knight of the Burning Pestle was the payoff

I hate Falstaff for the abuse of the press (and how his behavior gets winked at by critics) but Dr. Katherine Schaap Williams’s discussion of disability in history plays is now giving me disturbing thoughts about Falstaff’s abuse as a eugenics behavior as he chooses who gets “peppered”

This morning's panel on 'Staging Citizenship: Early Modern Disability Histories' proved definitively that, if you're working on law, citizenship, nationalism or neoliberalism in em England you NEED to be engaging with disability.
