This is 'safety' and 'free speech' at Dartmouth 🌲: former director of Jewish studies and history professor Annelise Orleck thrown to the ground by cops while engaged in nonviolent protest. Her 'crime'--emphatic speech. Shame.
Jeff Sharlet Dartmouth 🌲 Those cops were brutal to me. I promise I did absolutely nothing wrong. I was standing with a line of women faculty in the their 60s to 80s trying to protect our students. I have now been banned from the campus where I have taught for 34 years.
The Annelise Orleck I know is a nonviolent person & a tireless advocate for students. She has long been my only remaining tie to my alma mater Dartmouth 🌲. This is incredibly disturbing. See her reply to Jeff's post for further context. Militarized campuses are not the answer.
