Today Lynsey Chutel and I answered more questions about our book Coloured: How Classification became Culture. In Cape Town with an audience with many anti- Apartheid activists it was heartening to convert people from resistence to the conversation to a willingness to engage 💛📚
At the The New York Times we used the Freedom Charter, the bedrock of our constitution and the ideals South African Freedom Fighters used to imagine a free society. Here’s our story, using the freedom charter, to ask, has South Africa defeated apartheid.
