Finished What Happened to Nina by Dervla McTiernan and absolutely loved it. Such a clever, emotional and beautifully crafted novel, full of twists and turns, which I very strongly recommend.

Heading home from Love Lies Bleeding. Superb film: stylish, visceral and slightly bonkers. Kristen Stewart is fantastic in it. Another contender for my top 5 of 2024.

After last night’s killer spider film, tonight’s movie is The Holdovers which is wonderful. Just a really great, old-fashioned drama, though perhaps slightly too Christmassy for May!

Halfway through season 1 of KIN and it’s getting very exciting (it’s on iplayer and Netflix now).

Watching The End We Start From: Jodie Comer and her newborn travel across a flooded Britain in a quiet, well-made apocalyptic movie with a superb cast.

Just come out of Civil War. What a film. Intense, powerful and utterly chilling. I have a new contender for best film of 2024.

I went against most people’s advice and rented Night Swim. It’s utterly ridiculous but I’m quite enjoying it - maybe because my expectations were so low!

Just sped through I Will Ruin You, the new one by the always-brilliant Linwood Barclay. Fast-paced, unpredictable and darkly funny, it’s another perfect everyman thriller. Out in July.

Thoroughly enjoying The Lesson: literary novelist Richard E Grant and his wife, Julie Delpy, hire Daryl McCormack - who was brilliant in Bad Sisters and equally good in this - to tutor their son. Bookish skulduggery ensues. It’s on NowTV.

S1 of Fallout was superb. Definitely not for the squeamish but I loved it. Can’t wait for the next season.

Strong recommendation: Out today in paperback, it’s Natural Born Killers meets Sophie’s Choice, with two of the most evil baddies you’ll ever encounter. Brilliant.
