To be abundantly clear, we shouldn’t be punishing patients for having the 'audacity' to want basic care appropriate to their needs & wanting to be treated like a human in the process. Direct frustration towards the systems which thwart these needs, not people pointing them out!

We need to talk about clinical reprisals for patient whistleblowers.

NHS patients don't even have a whistleblowing route. They are 'complainants' not whistleblowers.

NHS treatment of staff whistleblowers is widely recognised but there's near silence on reprisals patients face

I do not at all understand the mystery of grace - only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us.

PCJ There is not enough solicitors to help with investigation matters and to take legal action for fraud. I hate the word complaint. A complaint is for a minor matter - a mistake or error. If fraud has occurred (altering records etc) and other serious things it becomes criminal.

When it looks like a cover-up,
when it sounds like a cover-up,
when it walks like a cover-up,
when those with an interest in denying it is a cover-up,
claim it is not a cover-up,
is it a cover-up?

I find the ‘safety in numbers’ mentality in menacing. “Everyone else has turned a blind eye to her, so we are safe to do it too.’ I wish that I could hold up a mirror to the 50+ who I have seen, so that they can see just how chilling their complacency is.

We are working on a podcast series about stigma in pain care. Have you felt stigmatized as a pain patient in our healthcare system? Would you be willing to share your story?

'I believe you.' -- something I say A LOT. Sometimes, this Is enough to make people cry, because medicine has a bad habit of assuming people 'fake' their symptoms.

Have you been accused of (directly/indirectly) 'faking it' by your medical team? Please comment. ❤️‍🩹

The hardest part of dealing with the UK system has been the things have said to me; ‘Stop chasing the dragon,’ ‘We’ll wait for you to get really ill before we do anything,’ ‘Stop shopping around.’ It’s the coldness of their words that leaves me so aghast.

Agreed on the correcting

‘Revising’ shouldn’t/doesn’t really apply where eg patient did not, at any stage, have facial pain or symptoms for burning mouth syndrome and neither was patient being hypochondriacal or imagining symptoms

Avoidable misdiagnoses

When you write what you know, you stay in control. One of the first things I encourage my writing students to do is to lose control - say what they want to say, break structure.
