Some folks think partisan appointments to watchdog positions is politics as usual.

It's not. When it happens we should call it out.

Populist authoritarians don't simply accumulate power. They remove checks and balances that hold them accountable. That's democratic backsliding.

In case anyone doubts whether this appointment was intended to be as partisan it appears, UCP committee member Angela Pitt said she is “looking forward to Shawn McLeod’s integrity in this office and standing up against the political partisan attacks that the NDP has used this…

Remember when there was a shortage of children’s pain medication and Danielle Smith’s government spent $80 million to import the medication from Turkey?

We’ve now learned the UCP were warned the supply they ordered would arrive AFTER the regular supply would come and after the…

It's been 12 years since Naheed Nenshi was named the most trusted person in Canada by Reader's Digest. This lives in my office as a reminder about my privilege to be a part of that amazing team of public servants.

In a 5-4 vote, the committee will be recommending Shawn McLeod as the next ethics commissioner. McLeod worked as deputy minister of labour and immigration and jobs, economy and northern development.
But the NDP pointed out he is a UCP donor who sought nomination last elxn

The minister says the AESO board chair 'suggested the pause' on renewables. The board chair that ordered the CEO:

“I told him to support the minister without reservation. Nothing good will happen if the minister feels that the System Operator is not behind the decision.”

1/2 The Premier continues to look for justification of the overreach in Bill 20. This isn't it. As both her and I well know, City Council does not have the authority to change voter eligibility and we did not vote to change election law.

Nope.

Calgary City Council voted to lobby the government for changes.

Who can, of course, say no.

They do not have the power to initiate those changes.

This is fearmongering from the premier, for the purpose of nothing more than fearmongering.

Highly recommended. Rick is a powerhouse of Saddledome information, and the food is 👍👍 You get to see some parts of the dome that the public usually doesn't get access to. Lots of history in that building.

May 5th is where we honour the memories of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls across Canada.

There are events across Alberta & in Calgary commemorating Red Dress Day and wearing red today shows solidarity with this cause.

Thank you for your service, Carla. And thank you to all the teachers for the work you do every day. I was so glad to join this conversation with the Alberta Teachers' Association who graciously accommodated me online while I’m on a long-standing work commitment.

Blaming Calgary & Edmonton for not being able to pay for the full programs?

Premier Smith PROMISED this to get elected:

'We will invest in food banks and expand low income transit passes to ensure every Albertan has access to food and mobility for their families.'

The completion of TMX is because Rachel Notley and the Alberta NDP understood the assignment of governing.

It’s about acting in the best interests of the people you serve, doing the hard work to listen and persuade Canadians & the federal govt that Alberta’s interests are…

Great, the UCP did the right thing and reversed their decision to cut funding for the low-income transit pass.

But they deserve no kudos.

They thought they could get away with an attack on some of our most vulnerable neighbours.

Don’t forget, Alberta.

And stay loud.

I hope this is true. But it brings back my core criticism of this government. They don’t care or think much about actual governing. They are focused only on the fight they want to have on any given day, not on the impact on real people.

This is absolutely devastating to our clients and to us as an organization. The majority of our clients rely on their transit passes to access services such as ours. We purposely opened the Pet Advocacy Center a block from the Chinook LRT for the sake of our clients.

Today’s news about the provincial government’s decision to cut the low income transit passes in Calgary and Edmonton is incredibly upsetting.

This pass was a way to help our neighbours. A means for everyone to actively participate in their community. It was an essential service…

I cry with you Naheed Nenshi this program saved me & my kids. I really do believe they are trying to eliminate an entire population and I am going to keep saying that because I can’t come up with any other logical reason that they are doing these things to the seniors & unprivileged
