Learning about equal parts of a whole and fraction names. We explored with playdoh to show halves and fourths in different ways. We then challenged ourselves to create other fraction parts & name them! What do we notice as the # of fraction parts ⬆️? Oriole Park TDSB Mathematics & Numeracy

We have transferred our friends into their butterfly nets! We can’t wait for them to emerge from their chrysalises. Loved that students grabbed our book and began a read aloud to each other! Oriole Park Toronto District School Board 🐛 🦋

We learned about abstract artist, . We examined his use of straight lines, geometric shapes, and primary colours. We used these features to create our own Mondrian-style animals. Lots of focus needed since using rulers was a first for many! Oriole Park Toronto District School Board

Excited to meet our new 🐛 friends with Ms. Siddiqis class! It’s clear we have lots of experts as we discussed life cycles, the needs/characteristics of these fuzzy looking creatures, and our predictions about the transformation that we will soon observe! Oriole Park Toronto District School Board

We learned about Wangari Maathai’s determination to make change in her community in Kenya. We were inspired to build our own “Trees of Peace.” Together w/ our teams, we thought about creating a tall & stable structure using only the materials given! TDSB STEM K-12 Oriole Park

To launch our writing unit on narratives, we began developing characters! After collaborating on a class character, we had so much fun creating our own and sharing our ideas with friends. Oriole Park Toronto District School Board

Estimating, measuring, and comparing area. Let’s help Mr. Quimby decide on a new design for our school playground. Which option has the biggest area? How did you count? Which shape would be best for playing? Can 2 different shapes have the same area?? Oriole Park TDSB Mathematics & Numeracy

We are learning about the elements of fairy tales and exploring many of these well-known stories! Students have been showing their understandings in many ways. Today we created sequential codes to retell the 3 Little 🐷, and Goldilocks and the 3 🐻! Oriole Park Toronto District School Board

Students loved having more parents in this week to talk about their jobs in the community. It’s also fun to let parents experience classroom life! We learned a lot, and the company swag was definitely a nice perk! Oriole Park Toronto District School Board

Connecting our learning about perspective to our unit on fairy tales. We started thinking about how a story might sound if told from different points-of-view. We created persuasive posters by taking the P.O.V. of some well-known characters. Oriole Park Toronto District School Board

Fairy tale fun w/ the 3 Billy Goats Gruff/Fluff! We retold & compared/contrasted 2 versions of the story. We also completed our 1st fairy tale S.T.E.M. challenge: Design & build a bridge to support 3 goats & be tall enough for the troll to live under! Oriole Park TDSB STEM K-12

We started to think about measurement and the many words that can be used to describe this concept. We learned that measurement is often the comparison of the size of an object to the size of another. We made a class book to show our understanding! Oriole Park TDSB Mathematics & Numeracy

We worked on some problem solving, followed by a classroom hunt to practice comparing the lengths of objects using what we learned about direct measurement. Oriole Park TDSB Mathematics & Numeracy
