The award is for a piece of social affairs journalism which combines the rigorous analysis and commitment to social justice that characterised Raftery’s work.

Thank you so much to the judges for choosing Calling Time out of a really impressive shortlist.

It was amazing and humbling to win the 2023 The Mary Raftery Prize along with my editor Maria Delaney at Noteworthy.

We won for our Calling Time investigation which exposed how the rights of children of prisoners were not being fulfilled.

Delighted to be named as winner of The Mary Raftery Prize for the second time, in this instance alongside Órla Ryan and Sinéad O'Carroll for Redacted Lives.

Mary's work demonstrates how vitally important the work of journalists is in society and the change it can achieve.

Justine McCarthy delivered the inaugural Mary Raftery memorial lecture last night. It was a passionate and moving defence of journalism's role in shining a light into dark places and giving a voice to the voiceless

Since the waiver for the payment scheme was not made publicly available, I put in an FOI request for a copy of it... and I was successful.

This is the one-page waiver people will fill out when sending through an application.

Each year in Ireland ~ 1,500 people develop a psychotic disorder for the first time. The earlier a person’s symptoms are treated, the better the outcome.

No child currently has access to an early intervention team.
