Things often overlooked as we race through life. A work life balance is one of, if not the most, important pieces for so many reasons including increased productivity and a healthier work culture. That last one is the hardest to remember and practice…go slow to go fast.

One of the reasons a purchased curriculum will have mixed effectiveness is because it was not written for your specific group of students. It’s generalized. The instructional strategies that you use make that curricular resource more responsive and effective for your students.

I teach a student who shows little engagement.

Today, I printed the PPT and gave him a checklist of what he was expected to do.

He remained on task the entire lesson. Breaking down instructions hit differently.

Just as we seek the why in what we do and what we teach, we teach our students to understand the why of what they are learning. We need to take this a step farther and understand the why for “behavior” in order to truly be student-centered and support the whole child.

The racial trouble (among many troubles) w/ discipline programs that reward 'good' behavior: research shows that educators interpret behavior differently depending on students' race. If we don't fix that, at least part of what we're rewarding is whiteness.
