The vulnerability of the dryland populace is not only a function of a changing climate but also a function of historical political, social and economic marginalisation. The backdrop of this marginality has enormously impacted dryland communities.

Resilience building is not merely shifting theories, frameworks, programme designs, or actors! It is acknowledging the significance of local practices and embedding these practices in practical implementation of resilience, if food security is to be enhanced.

Great privilege giving a lecture at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) tonight alongside Isla Myers-Smith. Arresting too to run into Sir Wilfred Thesiger himself, rendered in bronze, whose donation of photographs taken in Turkana to the Pitt Rivers Museum has played such a monumental role in my research.
