Favourite Speccy games...
3D Tanx, 1982
Like many of my early Spectrum games, I had this on a copied tape with no instructions. I figured it out through trial and error & could sit for hours trying to jam up the bridge - a great early title on the Speccy #zxspectrum #retrogaming

Star Wars, 1987
A surprisingly late title on the Speccy given ROTJ had been in the cinema 4 years earlier, but to take on Tie Fighters & fly the trench run on the Death Star was incredible - really good vector gfx on the Speccy #zxspectrum #retrogaming
For your eyes new arrived #ZXSpectrum #Art pieces for you to enjoy.

The ZX Spectrum was released 23rd April 1982. My dad came home one day in ‘83 or ‘84 with a second-hand Speccy & a bunch of C60 cassette tapes with nothing more than words like “Jetpac” and “Hungry Horace” written on the inlay. I was hooked straight away #zxspectrum #retrogaming

Skool Daze, ‘84
I’d get home from school, watch Grange Hill, & go back to virtual skool to play this. An inventive concept, it didn’t fit in to a genre as such & was Bully before its time. The sequel passed me by for some reason #zxspectrum #retrogaming

Sim City, ‘90
I was nearing the end of my time with the Spectrum, but games like this extended its life - a city building & management simulation might not have sounded like fun at the time but it was so engrossing #zxspectrum #retrogaming

Scuba Dive, ‘83
For some people Ultimate, Ocean or Codemasters define the Speccy, for me it’s Durell. They made a small number of games but each one captured my imagination. Scuba Dive had a “what else is down there?” quality #zxspectrum #retrogaming

Classic Speccy gaming - frantic, unforgiving, colourful gameplay. Spread over a huge (256 screens) map, collect 4 amulet pieces to escape. I’ve seen it done in 10 minutes, 40 years later I’m still trying! #zxspectrum #retrogaming

Saboteur II, ‘87
I was beyond excited for the avenging angel sequel & it didn’t disappoint, from the hang glider opening to the flame thrower guards to the motorbike escape! On reflection the original is better but I love it #zxspectrum #retrogaming

Saboteur, ‘85
This game was like nothing I’d played before - from the opening at the pier, through the huge complex with henchmen, to the helicopter escape it felt cinematic like a Bond movie - it had me at the cover art! #zxspectrum #retrogaming

R-Type, ‘88
I’ve never thought shooters work very well on the Speccy…& then R-Type demonstrates that the impossible is possible. A remarkable achievement in just 48k, read Bob Pape’s making of here:

The fight against Metal Gear Rex was frustratingly difficult until it suddenly wasn’t & was pretty easy. I can see why Metal Gear Solid is a gaming classic & I’m happy to have finally played it, but I don’t miss old control systems #retrogaming

Robocop, ‘88
This perfected the Ocean format of action & puzzles & what 13 year old didn’t want to play the game of the 18 rated movie they’d seen on VHS? I loved it but I think it’s dated more compared to other games of the era #zxspectrum #retrogaming
