It looks like the vote is finally happening! Tomorrow!! It also looks like the rebels are not going to accept Rishi Sunak's 'proposal' to return to 0.7% at some unknown time in the future. Quite right too!

I have just spent the evening with a water engineer who is back from Africa as all his sanitation projects with U.K. Gov’t funding have been cancelled. Basic sanitation for the poorest…now abandoned. This is not Global Britain. Shameful stuff.

In our years of tracking public opinion on the aid budget, we have NEVER seen such a jump in support for aid as we saw this June.

NEW: Former minister Andrew Mitchell applies for emergency SO24 debate on Govt plan for overseas aid cuts. He claims vote would've passed by 'probably around 20', warning: 'The House of Commons maths is not going to go away.'

What's really interesting about the recent jump in public support for the UK aid budget is that the increase is bipartisan: Conservative & Labour voter support increased at the same rate.

I faced Andrew Mitchell across the Despatch Box; he is a party political opponent but he has my utmost respect for his persistence on this issue. We’ve both seen for ourselves that works. That’s why the UK must commit to the 0.7% of ODI spend.

I may not be surprised by this but I'm certainly disgusted that the Gov is willing to turn its back on developing countries in this way. These will have huge repercussions on poverty, education and global hunger.

Trying to imagine them being as preoccupied with the women and children who’ll die from or the British school kids it took a footballer to get fed as they are about what sort of protest the victims of English racism should take.

Nope, can’t imagine it.

People, at the next election, please remember how your MP voted. Only the cruelest of governments, and people, can believe this was the right choice. They can justify it how they want but this was a vote against saving lives, not finances.
