Along the coast, the metasedimentary rocks occur in column-like landforms known as rauk. They are formed by erosion, but in lore, these were believed to be petrified trolls.

The 2nd stage of #ArcticRace will start in the same old rocks as at the end of 1st stage, then go swiftly through some of the overlying Caledonian rocks, and finally enter another rock window in the Repparfjord area also rich in basalts and sediments.

During the 1st (and 2nd) stage of #ArcticRace , the pelonton will ride along an ancient rift basin that once was filled with basalts, tuffs and sediments. Today, this is known as the Kautokeino Greenstone Belt, and during metamorphism the basalt has turned to greenstone.
