Last of the #BSBIKerry hunts went down a treat as we ventured around Ballyseedy woods just outside Tralee. 7 botanists recorded 26 species in flr. Buzzards & ladybirds also seen plus a box of biscuits at the end for the winner. What more could you want?! #NewYearPlantHunt

The machair is looking especially floriferous this year in the Maherees, and I was very happy to come across numerous Autumn Lady's Tresses Spiranthes spiralis along the bee orchid outcrop #BSBIKerry #wildflowerhour BSBI Ireland BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland

Well done Mary and co! 7 participants recorded 29 species in flower around the very flooded Muckross Peninsula- incl the obligatory Strawberry Tree (Arbutus unedo). The weather held up as well! Gutted to have missed it, well done guys, great job!🥰

For #wildflowerhour a selection of today's botanical finds while out hunting for the #NewYearPlantHunt at Muckross KNP. It seemed a slow start, and we didn't think we'd match last year's tally (43)- esp w/out eagle eyed Rory Hodd -but we did! #BSBIKerry

43 plants in flower (exact same no as last year!, albeit a few different species.) tennes of fungi, a foraging honeybee & a huge squirrel's drey all while taking in the fantastic views of Muckross Lake and beyond- another great plant hunt down #BSBIKerry #NewYearPlantHunt

🌼Yesterday's #BSBIKerry hunt at Ballyseedy Woods was a wet and windy one, a sharp contrast to the calm conditions we had in #Killarney on Sunday
As seems the trend for this year's #NewYearPlantHunt fewer species were recorded in flower with 5 this year compared to 10 in 2022🌧️☂️

Windy conditions for the final #BSBIKerry hunt that took place in Ballyheigue Tues morn (3rd Jan). More species recorded this yr with 21 flowering compared to 15 in 2022. Bonus find was Lilly's whale vertebra!🐋This was her 6th yr taking part in the #NewYearPlantHunt 🌿 #BotanyPup

One botanist, two #botanydogs but only 10 species recorded flowering in Ballyseedy Woods, Tralee, today. Well under half of what we'd normally record but despite the howling wind & lack of flowers, there was a definite hint of spring in the air. #NewYearPlantHunt #bsbikerry
