Soviet Vostok 6 spacecraft, with cosmonaut Valentina V. Tereshkova, the first woman in space, was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome #OTD in 1963. After completing 48 orbits, the spacecraft returned to Earth on June 19, 1963. The flight duration was 2 days, 22 hours, 50 minutes.

On June 7, 1983 Russian (USSR) space probe Venera 16 was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome to Venus to map the surface of the planet. The probe discovered new Corona and Tessera types of terrain structures. Its names later appeared on the maps of the circumpolar area of Venus.
