Riding the brand new £23 million City Centre West to East Link (CCWEL) in #Edinburgh . A separated cycling facility right through the heart of the city. Well done Edinburgh!

Rode from roseburn to Leith this afternoon. Functionality Leith walk and CCWEL are pretty much identical. The quality of construction is night and day, however. And the Leith low traffic neighbourhood is really starting to bed in now.

Encountering kids cycling on CCWEL - experiencing independence and well-being- this would not be happening without segregated infrastructure. Bravo Edinburgh Council - more please everywhere - make these routes connected.

Needed to attend a meeting at #LeithCommunityCroft during the week so a chance to see how the CCWEL (unopened) is progressing. Off to a decent start through Roseburn.🧵

Very disappointing to see footway removed along the whole of the busy, narrow Haymarket Terrace pavement to accommodate the new #CCWEL cycleway.

We've repeatedly been assured that new space for cycling will not come from pedestrian space.

A look at the brand new #CCWEL in Edinburgh: already having a big impact by making it easier & safer to cycle into the centre from the city's west end. We need more protected infrastructure like this across Scotland, to help more people travel by bike safely and with confidence.

Was great to chat with Cllr Scott Arthur 🌍🌈🌹 today at the CCWEL opening. Here he talks about cycling in the city, public transport and the need for the council to move away from 'relying heavily' on parking charges - which last year generated £25m for the capital.

On the other hand, CCWEL is decent.

The Roseburn end of the CCWEL feels wayyy better than the Leith Walk end by comparison. This was also quiet post lunchtime slot. I expect Leith Walk is far worse at busy times of the day. Despite all that, 33mins to get from Longstone to Leith is decent. END

What a wonderful experience cycling home via the CCWEL, just a bit of roadworks, cars parked, barriers at Haymarket and roadworks signs in the bike lanes.

TLDR: the junction is operating as intended, with reduced traffic volumes since pre Covid times, and some small increases in queue lengths...
