⚓️It's 1689 when Alice Thornton writes this letter to her cousin, Lord Danby. He has helped get her son, Robert, on a ship to Spain and she thanks him for 'putting him... so far away'. Robert was much in debt at the time. This fascinating record is at BL Modern Manuscripts #EYASecrets

💍Alice Thornton was born and died in #Yorkshire . This document from UoY Borthwick Institute for Archives is her will made in 1705. She died in January 1707. Her children and grandchildren were left rings ‘to wear in remembrance of me’. Her books became family heirlooms too. #EYASecrets #herstory
