Education is supposed to be the great equalizer, right? It’s still shocking to me that as people learn more and earn higher degrees, the pay gap doesn’t shrink – it gets WIDER.

Today is Equal Pay Day. As a lawyer, I started my career by representing women experiencing inequality in the workplace. I will not stop fighting until we end the gender pay gap, which will cut poverty in half and add $500 billion to US GDP.

On Equal Pay Day we’re sharing new numbers on California’s pay gap. While our state has some of the strongest equal pay laws nationwide, our data shows people aren’t being paid equally across industries — especially for women of color. (1/5)

Women are just as qualified as men in the workplace.

Women work the same hours as men do.

Yet, women still have to fight to be paid the same as men.

It's simple: women deserve equal pay for equal work, and I'll keep fighting for it today and every day after.

Today is .

On average, all working women earn only 78 cents for every $1 earned by men. Women working full time, year round earn only 84 cents.

It's even worse for Latinas, Native American women, and all women of color.

This pay gap MUST END!

Far too many women in the workforce are still being denied equal pay for equal work.

We’ve made progress in closing the gender pay gap, but we won’t stop fighting until all barriers to success are eradicated once and for all.

There is much work to be done in order to close the wage gap. A union contract is a good place to start. Unions empower women by closing the wage gap, strengthening our economy and making work better for us all.

Women still make $0.84 on the dollar on average, and for women of color it's even less.

In Congress, I fought to close the gender wage gap. On , we must commit to continuing that fight until women make their fair share.
