--2015 Petit Le Mans--
Preluding this weekend's 26th Motul Petit Le Mans, let's remember its strangest edition! 2015's race was only the second in its history run under a united American sportscar series. The previous year, a DP would win it for the first time. (1/3)

Group 5 peaked in 1980, featuring privateer Porsches, Lancias, and BMWs. However, Porsche's factory cars, which dominated Group 5's early years, culminated in 1978 with the development of the iconic 'Moby Dick' Le Mans monster! (1/4)

With no road-going cousins, the Cupra's racing opportunities outside Spain were limited. However, this empowered SEAT to build its Audi V6-powered GT with minimal restrictions. Öhlins suspension and Brembo brakes put this GT on par with its N-GT/GT2-spec rivals. (2/3)

Darro Motor Racing brought the Cupra GT its best result, 2nd at 2004's Spanish GT Valencia round. For the Cupra's final season, SunRed managed a few 10th-place finishes. Using lessons learned from SEAT, this outfit resolved to build its own GT for 2007, the SR21. (3/3)

The weather forecast for 2015's race was anything but sunny. DP and LMP2 cars in the P class used Continental tires, which were improvements on Grand Am's compounds. However, the GTLM category was running the same state-of-the-art Michelin rubber used in the WEC. (2/3)

As Porsche's first water-cooled racer, the 935/78 benefited from many expensive changes. The sleek bodywork was optimized for low drag. The 'Moby Dick' actually debuted at the 6 Hours of Silverstone, rewarding its engineers' hard work with a 7-lap margin win! (2/4)

Porsche's withdrawal after 1978 signaled its privateers to ramp up their 935 experiments and invited other makes to finally join. The 935/78 was brought to some national races to finish the year. As a Le Mans special, it was sadly uncompetitive on twisty tracks. (4/4)

The 935/78 was excitingly the fastest car at Le Mans practice! Frustratingly, Porsche incautiously paraded its prized 'Moby Dick' in-town, overheating the engine. It didn't perform as well after a short-notice repair, finishing 8th behind even privateer 935s. (3/4)

At qualifying, Porsche's factory GTLMs were within 3 seconds of pole. There was nearly no gap in pace between the GTs and prototypes. In the end, the intensifying weather halted the race 8 hours in. #911 won Petit Le Mans overall - the only GT so far to do so! (3/3)
