Extremely worrisome that China has just detected the first ever human case of H3N8 bird flu, otherwise found only in horses, dogs, birds & seals.

Farmed birds create an ideal environment for avian viruses to mix & mutate. Last year China reported the first human case of H10N3.

There are no new cases among family members of the patient, samples from close contacts and environmental samples tested negative for influenza A(H10N3) virus. The patient remains in critical condition.
