Today some - mainly catchment - schools started. All vehicles could still flow effectively through .

As more schools start back, particularly non-catchments with higher driving rates, this junction will become gridlocked.

action is action.

Milkwood Road , c1910 and today. All the buildings in the historic view were demolished after WW2. On the left the Milkwood Tavern. Note the large gas lamp above the entrance, a common feature with Victorian pubs. A school has taken the place of the pub.

Milkwood Road , December 1905. Can be dated by the hoarding showing the popular play The Scarlet Pimpernel at the Crown Theatre Peckham. The fire station (now Sainsbury’s Local) was built the following year.

Former dairy on Rosendale Road next to the Grade II listed 1860s railway bridge. The dairy, photographed here in the 1950s, dates from the late 1890s and currently awaits a redevelopment that will retain the distinctive facade.

Postcard sent in 1910 by Emma Suffolk. This was “Glanpaith”, her house at 68 HerneHill#, built c1901, where she lived with two servants. House is still there, though railings gone and cars in the front garden.

Milkwood Road in 1989 (today Sainsburys Local). And there used to be a car paint spraying and an “ornimental” (sic) ironwork business in the railway arches opposite. A Short History of Herne Hill – from Car Sales to Gail’s!

postcard sent on 17 Nov 1905. The writer’s address is Torbay Holmdene Avenue – no number, so the postman had to remember the house names! The addressee is Mrs F. White, Valiant Soldier, Buckfastleigh, then a pub, today a fascinating local museum and heritage centre

The main gate to Brockwell Park c1905-10. Electric trams have arrived – note the overhead line. The two lodge houses predate the creation of Brockwell Park as a public park in 1892 and were demolished c1914.

The in ward.

5,000 pupils travel here daily from all over London.

The car trips to & from this *destination* contribute to congestion on Southwark roads -

But Southwark Council have cancelled plans for parking restrictions here??
