#JanVanEyck Oops--there is a record of Costanza Trenta, wife of Giovanni di Nicolao Arnolfini, DID die in childbirth in 1433, the year before the painting. Sorry I thought there was no record, but there is. Ducal records survive bc he sold artwork to Duke Philip the Good.
