A reminder to all schools promoting #Makaton during #DeafAwarenessWeek , here’s the explanation from the Sense organisation on the differences between Makaton and #BSL and who uses which one. In short, we deaf people DO NOT use Makaton. Please do better by educating yourselves.

I never understand why Makaton is the hearing people’s go-to recommendation whenever someone expresses their desire to learn sign language. Makaton is not sign language and is not used by the deaf. If your intention is to communicate with deaf people, DO NOT learn Makaton!
