#NCARFire from my place in Superior. Captured at 9PM. Still 0% contained, but the weather is looking favorable tonight. Let's hope we wake up to some good news.
Huge shout out to the first responders who have kept the #NCARFire in check, protected our South Boulder homes, and helped us evacuate safely. We are grateful!
Scary how fast the #NCARFire grew. We were hiking on Bear Canyon and took these photos at 2:03pm (left, from the trail) and 2:27pm (right, from the trailhead after running back down the trail). When we called 911 at 2:03, they were already aware of the fire.
The burn scar of the #NCARFire , from the Weather Trail behind the Mesa Lab (only NCAR staff are allowed up NCAR Road currently, not gen. public). Wildland fire crews are still here, & there’s still a little smoke in the air from smoldering. Thankfully it’s starting to spit rain.
I stayed at my house in South Boulder all day during the #ncarfire to water things down and watch the progress of the fire as it went across the mountain. Thanks to the Boulder firefighters who pulled miles of heavy hoses across the landscape today. #boulderstrong
It’s clear that lots of thinning and fuels management ahead of the #ncarfire gave firefighters plenty of opportunities for suppression and helped make the fire provide benefits to the forest, mitigating future wildfire risk. Check out that mosaic pattern - looks good!
Thank you to all firefighters and first responders who fought the #NCARFire ! Because of their hard work, the city is opening up many trails around NCAR today. Please visit OSMPTrails.org to see current trail closures.
This morning firefighters from Castle Rock, Franktown, Sable Altura and South Metro assembled in Centennial and deployed as a wildland task force to the #NCARFire in Boulder for a 12-hour mutual aid assignment. The task force that responded yesterday returned home safely.
I’ve been staring out our bedroom window for an hour watching the #NCARFire trying to creep toward us.Every 10 minutes a helicopter arrives and drops hundreds of gallons of water providing relief🙏🏼Feeling incredibly grateful for all the emergency responders. They are true heroes💗
I flew right over the #NCARFire today. Also looked at it from the outskirts of Boulder this morning. From afar, it looks like a lot of good underburn in the pine forest. SW Boulder is a WUI nightmare, easy to imagine a major urban conflagration there.
