Thanks for a brilliant first day of the #NordicAMRConference covering clinical and evolutionary aspects of AMR 🦠🧫🔬
It was great to host the 1st #NordicAMRConference in Tromsø last week! 😃
- Eight research centers 👩🔬👨🔬
- Cutting edge AMR research 💊🔬
- New connections established 🤝
Looking forward for the next meeting in 2026! 🇫🇮
Also well done by our phenotypic heterogeneity poster crew Nadia Aftab Roni Miah Balqees Olobada and Jasmin Wilhelmsen! Looking forward to the next #NordicAMRConference in Finland 2026
Congratulations Jessica Renz for winning one of the poster prizes at #NordicAMRconference ! Maths approaches literally FTW
A grand finale for the #NordicAMRConference with a panel discussion with all centers reflecting on their roles & opportunities with a global outlook
📚education & capacity building
💰united front toward funders
🔃 more connections
A white paper coming out of this soon! 📝
So many species of interest in the session! A lot of the #Enterococcus strains are wrongly classified as E. faecium instead of lactis. Theordor Ross presents his work looking at ways to differentiate between clades and looking at resistome screenings
#NordicAMRConference
More klebsiella stories! Md Jalal Uddin presents the identification of a group of serine hydrolases that might play a role in infection in the gut. They do this by using organoids that mimic the intestine, super cool!
#NordicAMRConference
Can we find factors associated with Klebsiella colonization in the gut? Kenneth Lindstedt from UiT Norges arktiske universitet presents an in depth work looking into the lengths and dynamics of this, finding interesting correlations between colonization & the #microbiome
#NordicAMRConference
#Phagetherapy on stage! Gabriel de Freitas Almeida gets us up to speed on his efforts to discover and culture phages in the Arctic.
Focus on:
- understanding marine phages 🧫
- use phages in aquaculture 🐟
- use phages for medical treatment 🩺
#NordicAMRConference
Next up our PhD student Carla Sacchi, with a business studies approach to better understand how cooperation and knowledge sharing between partners in #antibiotics R&D can lead to increased innovation
High knowledge sharing with a medium control is the way!
#NordicAMRConference
Aaand… We are on our way home! Here uur amazing UAC group representing Uppsala University at the #NordicAMRConference in Tromsø, hosted wonderfully by CANS - Centre for New Antibacterial Strategies!
We are looking forward to the 2026 edition in Helsinki 🇫🇮 already!
Thanks to our coordinators, professor and students🙌🏻
Last talk, but not least, with an outlook to the future and role of #AI , #ML in #microbiology with belal medhat
How?
Clustering data
Biomarker discovery
Simulations, correlations & causations
Integration of -omics datasets
Faster & less time-consuming!
#NordicAMRConference
Moving to the mouth for the last talk of the day👅Bente Sved found several clinically relevant resistance genes, but no vancomycinR, colistinR or ESBL genes, and no correlation with hospitalization or AB use.
#NordicAMRConference
Dharmender Kumar brings yet another bacteria to the #NordicAMRConference : Yersinia! Presenting the work done to find new target for antibacterial compounds using the cpx signaling pathway via silencing the urease production
Happy to see our PhD student Kinga Gulyas up in stage talking chemistry! Her works explores developing and assessing the activity of new inhibitors against metallo-beta-lactamases, enzymes able to break down some of our last line antibiotics like carbapenms
#NordicAMRConference
Starting the last session, with focus on global challenges 🌍
Opening keynote by Salla Sariola from University of Helsinki and FIMAR, presenting their work, trends on social sciences of #AMR and current sociology studies done looking at household networks in Benin 🏡
#NordicAMRConference
Exploring the sea as a source of new antibiotics! 🌊 Ataur Rahman presents the work done with modified compounds originally found in Arctic Bryozoan. In vitro & in vivo work looking into toxicity and antimicrobial activity using zebra fish models
#NordicAMRConference
Wrapping up the day with a session on alternative strategies & #microbiome . Veronika K Pettersen keynotes sheds light on the factors shaping the dynamics of the resistome in early life 👶🏼
