Pickering Unit 5 is looking to outperform these days with help from an advanced high pressure turbine. It has been high as high as 560 MW in initial testing after installation in 2021.

A sign of things to come with full refurbishment.

On this day in 1983, Unit 5, the first of Pickering B type reactors, reached full power just over 3 months after first grid connection. It took another 2 months to be declared in service.

In contrast, Unit 8 only took just over 1 month from first grid connection to in service!

In the 24hrs of February 3rd, Ontario's 5,000MW wind fleet produced a grand total of 2,281MWh, an average output of 95MW, hitting 0MW at 1PM. produced 62,218MWh, 27.3x more electricity.

The GEA will have cost Ontario $62 billion dollars by the time the contracts
