Custom request: the “eagle eye” from Gangs of New York, but reversed.

It’s so much details for such a small area. Instead of painting the details I started with a general shape and cut the details out using small diamond burs.

The blank eye on the right with the circle is what happens when an iris button is placed into the mold as the white acrylic cured around it. It sets the direction of gaze for painting. What happens when one is not used like the one on the left? Freehand it.

1/2 Here’s an interesting example showing how much the prosthesis can be adjusted to manipulate the eyelids. The acrylic piece on the left was made a month ago as the patient’s first ever prosthesis. It closely resembles the shape from the impression.

Another successful treatment of Congenital Microphthalmia with Stenting Therapy, which allowed us to expand tissues of her right eye to match her companion eye, and she is now able to comfortably wear Scleral Shell Prosthesis!
