Absolutely beautiful view of hydrothermal venting on yesterday’s dive. The shimmery bits are hot water coming out of the seafloor. Temperatures exceeded 200°C at some sites but these tube worms seem to like it.

Here’s a hydrothermal ‘flange’ the team on R/V Roger Revelle imaged w/ this week, where hot (~200°C) water pools below a mineralized ledge; check out the cone-shaped black sulfide ‘beehives’ below it! 🐝

We owe much of our success to the amazing team of engineers/pilots who run an outstanding operation. From launch and recovery of the vehicle, to expert navigation, to extremely precise sampling - these people are really who make our science possible! 3/11
