A5: Yes but would have to be adapted to the needs of a project. A project manager should be knowledgeable about the extra limitations that are introduced when dealing with such projects and be able to communicate that clearly to projects’ sponsors.

A1: Like any other project it needs to have a beginning, an end date and important milestones. It’s very important also to have clear expectations from the projects’ sponsors about expected benefit and flexibility for models’ refinements or methodology reviews.

A2: It’s critical to take your stakeholders on a journey with you and communicate challenges as you go along. You should also make efforts to explain in simple way the techniques that are used to gain the trust you need to put your project into production.

A3: Data Science is not really mature as a stand-alone field. It borrows things from statistics, CS, business, and the field domains. You can imagine who the data scientist actually is, not necessarily a formal CS person who
knows an IT/Software methodology

A1: I try to, but I find myself often skipping steps and then regretting it afterwards but it is always tempting to just go ahead and skip things. But especially when collaborating with others then methodology becomes more important

A3: One reason might well be that they aren't though in university (as far as I'm aware) and Data Science often is more of an individual then a team sport so following a methodology isn't as appreciated as it should be

Try out some methodologies and see what you works for you and what doesn't. It is always great to gain more insights on how to work I think - if you are looking for a good starting point check out communities.sas.com/t5/SAS-Communi…

A2: It is everything! Often times you need communication just to get up and running with the project (data, platform access, etc.) and then to make a project a success you need to be able to communicate & share the results

SAS Forums it affects but it's not only the root of the problem, you can learn it but then you have to put in action in any company, so the processes in every department should adopt it

A5: As with any methodology it can lead to productivity and consistency gains but can crush innovation and flexibility so balance is key and depends on the business context (how regulate are you)
