Great semester teaching SNC1W! Proud of my Ss hardwork on their version of the Climate Atlas of Canada, taking their learning about climate change & impacts from PrairieClimateCentre outside the classroom & teaching St. Joan of Arc community!

Gr9’s Philip Pocock C.S.S apply their coding skills to use the Micro:bit Educational Foundation as a conductivity tester & compare to using light bulbs. Ss consider advantages & disadvantages of each…one thing the micro:bit can do is offer music as a fun output!

Kicked off Ecology in SNC1W with a Ranking Activity - ss were asked to rank words in order of importance. We concluded that all of these factors are intertwined and necessary for the environment. In groups, ss read over the Cree perspective on Mother Nature and discussed!

Copper sulfate lab today in SNC1W! We reacted water and copper sulfate crystals, then added steel wool to watch rust form! Perfect example of physical and chemical changes! St. Pius X High School

Extremely surprised when I walked into my classroom this morning. My pea plants are growing as expected in Earth soil, but some are also growing in our “Martian regolith”. True science where there are more questions than answers at the moment for both students and teacher!

Gr9’s Father Michael Goetz celebrate Earth Week by learning how technology can helps address impacts of climate change. Using the Micro:bit Educational Foundation & InkSmith climate action kit, Ss program an irrigation pump to support sustainable farming! School plants get a good watering too!

Ss planted their peas in Earth soil and Martian regolith simulant. We’ve tried our best to replicate the Martian ground and added a little carbonate to decompose in the mini greenhouses to replicate the high CO2 atmosphere of Mars. Thanks Julie Arsenault for the inspiration!

Today in we continued our Electricity/ unit. We did thin-sliced 'hack' circuits. No fancy materials (Al foil, LEDs, button batteries, paperclips, some tape), Layered design challenges with some constraints.
