Heard a crash coming from the study, went to investigate to find a Sparrowhawk sitting on the desk looking out 👀👀👀👀👀👀

Stoat, rabbit, a brief glimpse of a sparrowhawk followed by squirrel, a pair of mallard, pheasant & finally the dog fox. Just a few of the many species to be seen on or around the old fallen oak branch forming a natural bridge over the river.

This morning I witnessed a Sparrowhawk take out a Jackdaw in mid-air,by the time I'd made it over to where they had landed the Jackdaw was on top of Sparrowhawk and giving it a proper doing,they eventually both flew off,both very lucky to do so...Isle of Bute #birding #ilovebute

Sparrowhawk nest in the woods behind the house. Caught my attention after seeing off a crow that was too close to the nest for comfort

Another shot of the #sparrowhawk that was recently in my garden. I was thrilled that I was able to photograph it. I was hiding behind a curtain clicking away and, thankfully, unseen.

Final post from Lesvos to mention some of the birds that eluded the camera - Levant Sparrowhawk, Red-breasted Flycatcher, Crag Martin, Pallid & Alpine Swift, Subalpine Warbler, Rock & Spanish Sparrow & Red-footed Falcon to name but a few out of the 167 species seen.

Scenes in my garden , as the first (seen) visit of a sparrowhawk was watched from the kitchen window. I've seen the remains of their lunch before, but not an adult.
Amazing how your camera is never to hand when moments like this occur..

Throwing this Sparrowhawk prototype to characterize spin. My target is in bad condition and the impact momentum of the Sparrowhawk is greatly enhancing the damage. At ~17 feet, the pommel impacts usually make an inch deep hole and tear off chunks of damaged wood…
