I learned so much in Sara Nović’s . Students at River Valley School for the Deaf stand up for their rights against “parents who feared sign language” & “the false binary” assistive technology and cochlear implants may create. This is a unique & needed novel.

'Her mother laughed, a deep-gullet sound totally uninfluenced by what the world decided laughter should be.' pg 32

I read that line & I intellectually understand it, but it never would have occurred to me to write it. That's why people writing their own stories matters.

Had a great ASL class with my Connecticut College students this morning. Thank you to author Sara Nović for Zooming in to class to discuss her book and culture in America. My students had a blast!

Really lovely to see Sara Nović talk about her book . She reflected on her personal journey with identity and how she came to view herself, not as a broken version of a hearing person, but as deaf; and how important a role language played in that process.

I have been thinking about and the last few days. We would be shortchanging ourselves if we do not recognize the value of both books. They can and will change lives, making a possible impact on future deaf education and its policies.

📚 What do you do when you have young deaf/hh aspiring authors as your students? Buy and put it on display in your classroom or school library. Sara Nović is a role model that you should be telling your students about! This recognition from Reese Witherspoon is amazing!

Goodness, I can’t even begin to put into words all the feelings this book provoked! This month’s Reese's Book Club pick by is an eye opening and heartfelt story about human connection and the beauty and adversity woven into the deaf community and culture. 📚💯✨

Jeremy Kappell A great adjunct to tonight’s Wx forecast when @WHEC_RSPETA visited the Rochester Museum & Science Center’s to explain the origin of “dog days of summer.”

The astronomer he interviewed is the brilliant Paul Krupinski, one of the most gifted men on Earth.

Starting on another great book by Sara Nović about sign language and lip-reading, disability and civil rights, isolation and injustice and more.
