Victorian teachers asked the RCI to do some analysis of real wage losses under their union's agreement with the state government. The results aren't pretty.

Teachers’ working conditions are kids’ learning conditions. Governments have a responsibility to sort out a fair deal for teachers so they can get on with their work. Drawing by the comrades at Workers Art Collective.

The AWU welcomes the government’s plan to reform Australia’s merger rules. It's an important first step in tackling abuse of market power by Coles and Woolworths.

But we need to do more.

On International Workers Memorial Day, I always reflect on this passage from Humphrey McQueen’s “Framework of Flesh”. Workplace fatalities & injuries are almost always preventable, and almost always caused by the greed of bosses trying to save time and money.

If we want to be a country that makes things we need to secure our manufacturing sector - both now and in the future.

The AWU strongly supports the Albanese Labor Government’s Future Made in Australia plan.

Child Safety Support Officers in Hobart held a stop work meeting today. Workers are fighting back against chronic understaffing, poor working conditions and low wages. Workers were promised reclassification by government 8 weeks ago, but it has not been implemented!

Happy May Day comrades! I am sharing the beautiful Walter Crane print “A Garland for May Day” and thinking about what I would include in my own version of a May Day Garland. There is still so much for workers to fight for.
