Antazoline is most widely known for its use as an eye drop for the treatment of allergic rhinitis. Recently, it has emerged as a cheap repurposed anti-arrhythmic drug for the pharmacological cardioversion of AF.

Vince is in AFib. Gabriella can do a cardioversion and put him on an anticoagulant and he’ll be okay #FireCountry
Dr. Lynn Fynn-derella🐭 I went in for gallbladder surgery and was found to have Afib during preop and had to cancel surgery. Put me on blood thinners and preformed Cardioversion to get me out of Afib. No seems to know the reason for the Afib. Hmmm...
lankalad I presume if you're on thinners then the stroke risk is averted. I'm on xarelto, so no blood testing reqd. When I first had AF I wore a halter monitor for 3 days to see how often AF. Had cardioversion (the paddles) to fix AF but it only held for 2 wks. Hope that helps else DM me.
𝙟𝙤𝙨𝙝 𝙛𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙖𝙨 (he/him) 💊 Definitely agree that amnestic effects of midazolam are generally sufficient for cardioversion. Never made a lot of sense to give an opioid as well given the risks.
That said I like 0.15mg/kg etomidate; more reliably accomplishes the desired effect and wears off very quickly.
