My potted, greenhouse-coddled strawberries have some aphids, so I've popped them outside so hoverflies can lay their eggs among the aphids *and* feed on pollen/nectar *and* pollinate the flowers. Simple, -given solutions, eh🐝

Things warmed up a bit today! Sunshine brought bees, wasps & hoverflies out in the garden. The dandelion flowers were smothered. Yesterday's sulking, soggy magpie seems to have taken up residence in the garden. Two pairs of swallows now claiming stable nest sites! Yay!

Can we please have a shout out for hoverflies? These unsung heroes may not be as flamboyant as butterflies or as cute as bumblebees, but they’re important pollinators that also help control pests like aphids.

A true roadside stunner, cow parsley is a familiar sight across the UK.
Cow parsley is important for a variety of insects, including bees and hoverflies, as it is an early source of pollen.

Our flowering Bay tree provides simple moments of pleasure – just being able to stay still, watch, wait and see the extraordinary variety of bees, hoverflies, shieldbugs, ladybirds & diptera that visit is surely nature’s own mindfulness 💚

Yellow Iris, bogbean, brooklime and other emergent species. The freshwater Potamogeton crispus (curly pondweed) is abundant in nice clear water. However, Elodea sp. here as well.

I reckon it will be a great site for dragons/damsels and hoverflies come peak season too.

After a slow, cold start today @rspbnewport Wetlands we had a good list of birds. Later sunny intervals tempted out insects including bees, butterflies, hoverflies and one dragonfly (? a Hairy dragonfly). Little owl, sleepy Whimbrel, Little grebe with chicks, a Green-veined white
