in 1554, Lady Jane Grey was executed on the scaffold on Tower Green within the Tower of London, and later buried in the chapel of St Peter ad Vincula (within the Tower).

in 1578 sister of died. Like her sisters, Mary spent time in imprisonment at Chequers. According to tradition Mary carved the below inscription on the wall of her prison. So far no one has been able to solve the riddle of its meaning.
