We find fat-depleted flies rewire their metabolism, shifting from fat to carbohydrate storage. This drives a ~20-fold increase in FB glycogen stores! Proteomics & metabolomics reveal rewiring that upregulates glycolysis, and glycogen synthase (GlyS) is now necessary for life.
