The #aftemath of #D -Day. June 1944 #OmahaBeach , #Normandy , U.S.Graves Registration Service processes dead Americans and Germans and prepare them for temporary burial.
Allied casualties on the first day were at least 10,000, with 4,414 confirmed dead. The Germans lost 1,000 men.

40 nurses were attached to this mobile hospital, 8 miles south of #OmahaBeach . They often worked 18-hour shifts.

Sinds 1965 kom ik bij een mij dierbaar geworden Franse familie in Vierville Omahabeach. In 1944 is hun grote huis (600 m van zee) in brand geschoten en vernield. Gezin dook weg in droge sloot. Bij
75-jaar D-day maakte ik dit gedicht bij foto van begraafplaats: 10.000 USA mannen.
