Q5: What national parks have you been too that had great representation of indigenous communities?

Martin Van Buren NPS A8: A bunch of us spent a day at Sequoia & Kings Cyn and it felt more like an honor than hard work. It was great to learn about invasive species of plants. Also just a shout out to 5 Gyres and all the work they do with TrashBlitz in the parks. #parkchat

Q6: What were you doing in 1974? If you didn't exist yet, what do you think has changed the most in parks over the last 50 years?

#ParkChat Here at MVBNHS we believe there are important stories to tell beyond just our namesake.
Q3: What kind of stories would you like to see represented or told at the National Parks that you visit?

Martin Van Buren NPS A1: I've never been to Martin Van Buren NPS, but I just checked on Google Maps. I want to visit someday! #ParkChat

#ParkChat A major initiative right now at MVBNHS is to tell the lives of the people that were enslaved here. Many of our visitors do not know that slavery was a common practice in New York.
Q4: Did you learn about slavery in the north in school or through other programs?

#ParkChat A 10) I love great digital maps so I can plan out which trails and stops I want to make during my national park visits

#ParkChat A 2) Not a ranger, but my favorite park history tour was at Fort Jefferson at Dry Tortugas National Park with Hollywood

#ParkChat A 4) Learned a lot about slavery growing up in the north in Philadelphia. The Revolutionary War was a big topic, but many sites, like Valley Forge were also important parts of the Civil War
