Polychromy: Colour in the #Achaemenid Empire

1: Persepolis

Made around 2300 years ago, this striking terracotta bust remarkably retains a significant amount of its colour. In vibrant hues, fine decorative details remain including her tendrils of hair and jewellery.

This remarkable stone screen at St Cross in Winchester was recycled from nearby St Faith's church, which was demolished in 1507 😱
It still retains a little polychromy, and perhaps I'm being fanciful but do I see the ghostly outlines of saints in the niches?
