The title of this bears repeating over and over again: 'Five years ago, the U.S. Department of Justice declared Alabama prisons unconstitutional, unsafe, and harmful. They still are.'

💪Alabama - YES! Both chambers have passed SB 322 and it's on its way to the Governor. This legislation, which is a small but meaningful step toward #PrisonOversight , is the result of families testifying about the brutality and lack of transparency they experienced with ADOC.

Hopeful that the AL legislature will also, finally, see the need for independent #PrisonOversight and introduce legislation on it this session. Long overdue. Over 100 mothers have lost their sons to homicide inside the state's walls in recent years.

🧵WIN IN ALABAMA! Governor Kay Ivey signed SB 322. It's now Act #2024-307 and officially on the books. This new law, sponsored by Senator Clyde Chambliss, is a starting point for #PrisonOversight of the dire, dangerous, and desperate state prison system.
