Kesha tells the story of her husband, emphasizing the importance of independent prison oversight.
Most U.S. operate with no oversight or accountability, meaning families like Kesha’s have no place to go when things go wrong.

🧵WIN IN ALABAMA! Governor Kay Ivey signed SB 322. It's now Act #2024-307 and officially on the books. This new law, sponsored by Senator Clyde Chambliss, is a starting point for #PrisonOversight of the dire, dangerous, and desperate state prison system.
Hopeful that the AL legislature will also, finally, see the need for independent #PrisonOversight and introduce legislation on it this session. Long overdue. Over 100 mothers have lost their sons to homicide inside the state's walls in recent years.

💪Alabama - YES! Both chambers have passed SB 322 and it's on its way to the Governor. This legislation, which is a small but meaningful step toward #PrisonOversight , is the result of families testifying about the brutality and lack of transparency they experienced with ADOC.
The title of this bears repeating over and over again: 'Five years ago, the U.S. Department of Justice declared Alabama prisons unconstitutional, unsafe, and harmful. They still are.'
And nothing has been done. #PrisonOversight

This is good - Alabama families should be told when something terrible happens to their loved one in state custody. But let's also stop the terrible things happening in the first place with #PrisonOversight . aldailynews.com/corrections-un…
100 people have been murdered in Alabama prisons since the US Dept. of Justice sued the state for violating the Constitution. The state should be putting everything it has behind #PrisonOversight , not letting the horrendous conditions get worse.

We sent a letter to the Alabama Joint Legislative Prison Oversight Committee today. Disappointed at the total lack of progress on #PrisonOversight despite the crisis continuing and worsening. Alabama's prisons are not safe and they are making communities less safe too.
For too long lawmakers have ignored serious problems in our prison systems. It's time to pass #prisonoversight . You can ask your lawmaker to support prison oversight at @famm.
