I need to revisit this compact platform again sometime.

However:
- Replace cup anemometer with pressure port
- Instead of PVC FARS use dual intake Young 43408
- Move rain gauge location up a little
- Add pyranometer

And perhaps a visibility sensor if we're feeling adventurous.

The Theiss Wind Tower in Key Largo captured interesting data from partial using a Pyranometer sensor. We were not in the path of totality, but we were still able to document a dip in solar radiation during partial coverage of the sun. Check out this line graph.

🚀The is working great. Now it's time to build the low-cost pyranometer to achieve the 1 sunlight source. Thanks Joel Troughton

ps. J(V) curve is from a polycrystalline-Si minimodule from aliexpress.

Good news!
The Met Office has installed 2 new instruments on a new tower in the weather station enclosure today; a new sunshine recorder & a pyranometer, so thanks Met Office for continuing support & investment!
And to @bablakeschool too for support over 42 years!

Example on the left is a graph from a normal day (day before eclipse) and the graph on the right is the partial solar eclipse day showing a big dip in solar radiation during partial coverage using a Pyranometer which measures global solar radiation.

Dylan Kelly of UNH NRESS PhD program flying our older XM6 in front of Greg Hall. This is work that will use a UAS-mounted pyranometer to measure the reflected solar radiation of different landcovers. Dylan is working with Meghan Howey, Liz Burakowski, and Michael Palace.

GHE Experimental set-up is going well.

Pyranometer & pyrgeometer sensors are working and tested. Here is the graph from the last day or so:

The 'Max implied' temp is gotten by summing solar + net IR, and calculating what temp an e=1.0 blackbody would be that emits this.

If GHE…

Very dry in central Washington 🌞🌵 but very good for solar. Here's a pyranometer we've put up to measure sun intensity and the data for last two months. Note the dip beginning of August. Apogee Instruments

Albedo-modulated global solar irradiance (SSR) fluctuates more than ±2 W/m² in 10 years.

Pyranometer evidence: SSR fluctuated +12 W/m² (1920-1950), -8 W/m² (1950s-1980s), and +8 W/m² (1980s-2005).

It took 265 years for the CO2 total radiative effect to reach +1.8 W/m² (~0.1°C).

I think it might be a sunny time to test out my DIY pyranometer unit. I've got it rigged up next to (cheap) commercial sensor with home brew datalogger to see how they correspond.

Dieser Piepmatz hat sich heute zwischen 14 und 15 Uhr auf unserem Pyranometer neben der Wolkenkamera ausgeruht und die Globalstrahlung damit auf Null gebracht.
