A great stop today at what was one of the earliest Roman forts, later the site of an Anglo-Saxon monastery, and then a church. The church towers were added in the 12th century.

January 12, 1808: The plan proposed by civil engineer John Rennie to protect St Mary's Church in Reculver, England from coastal erosion was abandoned. The church was established in 669 and many visitors have written about its incredible Anglo-Saxon architecture.

Built towards the end of Roman British occupation at the N end of the Wantsum Channel which once separated Thanet from the mainland. Now partly lost to the sea due to coastal erosion. 📷AH
