Not at all what I was looking for - I was in the mood for something long and meandering with meaty, rattling consonants - but when I found this I had to choose it. Thom Gunn, 'The Hug', as it appears on 'The Penguin Book of English Verse'.

This week's poem has video games and religious iconography. 'Halo 2' by Will Harris, published in 'Ten Poets of the New Generation' by Bloodaxe Books.

The smoking flax shall he not quench
The sinner, he won't wrench
Just believe and clench
Just recline on Calvary's bench

Grain of mustard seed
You can become a mighty tree
For Satan fears to see
The weakest saint upon his knees

Sneaking this in at the last minute. This is Rosmary Badcoe, published in the February 2016 issue of Under the Radar.

Fun fact: the Medieval church considered Barnacle Geese to be fish, meaning the could be eaten on Fridays.

'Hard-Luck Resume' by Catherine Bowman. I found this in an anthology called 'Blues Poetry' published by Everyman's Library in 2003, and edited by Kevin Young. I haven't looked at this book for years and there's some interesting stuff in there. Expect more.
