This is a series of round table discussions in different cities.
Many saying R10k p/m on transport seems wrong. They're right. The 'transport costs' here do reflect SA's dysfunctional cities, but aren't what they sound like. A better term, used by 🇿🇦 academic Andrew Kerr, who wrote on this in SA before WB/Harvard, is 'transport tax'. Thread:

The Western Cape Gov spent R73 million to build a parking facility in Maitland so that they could unlock their 3 parking sites in the inner city for better use. It is 2 years after the facility was finished and the cars still have not been moved.
