Is this a more common sight now or are people just noticing it more? Climate change? Loss of Sulphur dioxide pollution?

Fantastic to see pupils introduced to lichens. If you have the time and enthusiasm to work with youngsters, have a look at our Tom Chester Award grant. Schools can apply to help with any costs. britishlichensociety.org.uk/the-society/me…

Great to host friend & colleague Jesse Miller (Jesse Miller @texosporium.bsky.social), exploring one of ’s finest temperate rainforests. Jesse lives in the Pacific North West (America) and is President of California Lichens, so was fascinating to explore similarities and differences within this biome.

This is Ricasolia (Lobaria) virens, a lichen that's also sometimes known as dragon-skin, and you can see why! The brown shapes are fruiting bodies that release spores, and they're called apothecia. is a real stronghold for lichens like this.
