Great to host friend & colleague Jesse Miller (Jesse Miller @texosporium.bsky.social), exploring one of #Dartmoor ’s finest temperate rainforests. Jesse lives in the Pacific North West (America) and is President of California Lichens, so was fascinating to explore similarities and differences within this biome.

This is Ricasolia (Lobaria) virens, a lichen that's also sometimes known as dragon-skin, and you can see why! The brown shapes are fruiting bodies that release spores, and they're called apothecia. #ScotlandsRainforest is a real stronghold for lichens like this.

More lichens seen on the Isle of Arran with The British Lichen Society Cladonia floerkeana, Cetrelia olivetorum, Flavoparmelia caperata with fruits, Degelia cyanoloma.
