Lepidodendron

Control season is a few months away but JK is now present and growing rapidly in our river catchments. It's essential the stems are not cut or strimmed as this does not kill the plant and will likely cause further spread. 1/2

Bulbous Buttercup carpeting the verges at King's Park, Stirling today - fantastic scene! The turned-down sepals underneath the petals help tell it from our commoner buttercups. #NoMowMay

Lots of lovely photos of Scottish Primrose on Twitter at the mo... but if you don't happen to be on Orkney or in Caithness, you can still get a pink flower fix with Common Stork's-bill! This beauty on waste ground behind Stirling Sainsbury's, other supermarkets are available 😍

Most days in the field are good days as a botanist, but finding new sites for mountain avens, alpine cinquefoil & holly fern all in one day makes for a pretty special one! Also potentially Pyrenean scurvygrass in some springs?

A few more from another memorable day up in the North of Sutherland. The breeding plumaged Turnstone were really smart. The Primrose's were lovely. 👍

A fabulous few hours up in the North of Sutherland late afternoon. A beautiful new flower for me (Primula scotica) Scottish Primrose. Displaying Wheatear, calling group of Golden Plover & Cuckoo singing, a little piece of heaven. Thanks to my good friend Colin. 😃

Mount Keen is the most easterly munro, and is absolutely covered in clubmosses. Tonnes of Fir Clubmoss (Huperzia selago), more Interrupted Clubmoss (Lycopodium annotinum) than I've ever seen, and plenty of Stag's-horn Clubmoss (L.clavatum) on the mid-slopes.

An Orchid walk this afternoon with George to my favourite site for Early Purple in Fife. 😀

A roadside daunder 2 days ago got me my first ever heath dog-violets (Viola canina), a new & quite large local population of spring sedge (Carex caryophyllea) & this bizarre field wood-rush (Luzula campestris) that appears to be lacking anthocyanins. #wildflowerhour
